On 5 June 2010 it is World Environment Day. This is a day to try to make as much difference in the world as possible, but does it work? How old is it? and Who created it? This explanation will tell you.
World Environment day has had a theme for the 37 years it has been running. Here are a few:
In 2005 it was “Green Cities.”
In 2006 it was “Deserts and Desertification.”
In 2007 it was “Melting Ice - A Hot Topic?”
In 2008 it was Hosted by New Zealand and the theme was “ CO2, Kick the Habit!”
In 2009 it was “Your Planet Needs You - Unite To Combat Climate Change.”
And finally in 2010 it is “Many Species. One Planet. One Future”.
17,000 species are endangered at the moment but because of World Environment Day this number has decreased. So it means that W.E.D (World Environment Day) is working very well. It was established in 1972 by the United Nations General Assembly.
W.E.D has helped the world in many many ways. It has been going for 37 years it most definitely works. it was created by The United Nations General Assembly. W.E.D is a brilliant idea.
